After all, an undergraduate business education prepares young people to make an immediate contribution to an employer. That is rarely the case when it comes to many other academic fields, from English and history to geography and psychology.And the hard data proves the case, especially when it comes to the best business schools. Out of the 88 ranked undergraduate business programs by PoetsQuants in 2018, 50 schools reported that 90% or more of their 2018 graduates had jobs within three months of commencement.At a time when economists believe the U.S. economy is at full employment, many schools had near perfect placement records for their business undergrads last year. A t the University of Texas’ McCombs School of Business, a remarkable 99.6% of the graduates were employed three months after graduation.AT THE TOP: WORCESTER POLY, ST. LOUIS UNIVERSITY, ILLINOIS GIES, GEORGIA TERRYAnd there were a lot of other schools that might not necessarily spring to mind at the top of the list of the most successful schools in placing students: Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Foisie Business School was at   98.8%, Saint Louis University’s Chaifetz School of Business at 98.6%, the University of Illinois’ Gies College of Business hit 98.4%, and at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, the number was 97.99%.Even at schools that occupied the low end of placing their students, every school could claim that more than half of their graduating class of students had jobs. At Ithaca College, which had the lowest employment rate for any of the ranked 88 schools, 59.1% of graduates were able to get jobs within three mo nths.  Often times, undergraduate programs not in the top tier on placement are either more reliant on university-wide career offices or have devoted fewer resources inside their schools. Consider UC-Irvine’s Merage School of Business which posted a 2018 employment rate of 75% three months after graduation. Merage tries to leverage the UC office to help its undergrads, having just 1.5 full-time equivalent staffers in career services for its undergrads. Another factor is that 40% of the school’s freshmen admits and 57% of its transfer students are first-generation college students.  SOME STUDENTS DONT FEEL THE URGENCY TO DO AN EARLY JOB SEARCHâ€Å"Some [students] don’t feel urgency to have a job at graduation, or they believe they need the degree before they begin the job search,† explains Maia Young, associate dean of undergraduate programs at UC-Irvine’s Merage School of Business. She adds that the school is considering everything from assign ing alumni mentors to students, creating a career advising platform and a â€Å"passport program† that would give stamps to students who attend career events and lead to an extra cord at graduation.The best performing undergraduate programs generally have these features already in place. No school, however, beats UT-Austin in having a pro-active career services office that gets students into jobs quickly. While many schools merely put you in touch with career services department, one of the first classes business undergrads get at McCombs are taught by a career coaching professional who will discuss employer trends and examine what skills are in demand. Students are immediately guided through the process of developing a resume, learning out to write cover letters, networking, learning the ropes of job interviews by doing mock sessions with coaches.The school puts an unusual twist on its coaching efforts, pairing students with career coaches who are assigned students on the ba sis of their majors. So each coach has more industry and discipline-specific knowledge when they meet one-on-one with students to discuss options and polish job search and interview strategies. McCombs also boasts an additional peer coaching program to gain guidance with internships, career paths, and recruiting with a student who has already been there and done that.STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE INTERNSHIPS AT MCCOMBSAll of McCombs students are required to do an internship before graduation, an experience that often leads to a full-time job offer. The scale and scope of those internship opportunities at McCombs are impressive. In a recent year, for example, slightly more than one in four students gained internships in finance and banking, but many landed summer jobs with tech firms (16.5%), consulting (10.6%), retail, entertainment, and hospitality (6.0%), energy (5.9%), and consumer goods (5.0%).There’s a slew of weekly seminars, company visits, professional mentorship oppo rtunities, case interview workshops for would-be consultants to investment banking prep for students eager to get into i-banking. The school also sponsors two career expos every year in spring and winter, providing the chance to interact with more than 180 employers. The Effects Of Climate Change On Our Planet - 1061 Words

I am writing this letter to express my concern about the dangers that climate change poses on our planet. Climate change is occurring much faster than predicted. For that reason, many of our efforts aren’t fixing the issue fast enough. Many scientists agree that climate change will be the death of our people, and the future of our children if not improved by 2050. We only have a few years to reverse the affects climate change has had these past years. The 20 years that I have lived on this earth, there has not been one year where weather was â€Å"normal.† Winters have come to early or late. Low snowfall during the winter, or snow still falling in the spring. When it isn’t snowing, there have been record high temperatures in areas that aren’t supposed to experience such heat. There have also been many accounts of tropical storms and flooding all over the country. These past years have been the years where both humans and animals are negatively affected by these weather related tragedies. Climate change has been the culprit in global warming which in turn has decreased the animal populations due to the warming of the earth. Climate change has already caused the planet’s average temperature to rise by 1.6 °F since the beginning of the 20th century. That temperature rise could reach 2.7 °F above pre-industrial levels by the end of the century (and possibly as high as about 8.5 °F above 1986-2005 levels) if nothing is done to curb emissions. During the Middle Ages, two poems, Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight embody heroic figures. Beowulf, who demonstrates all the characteristics of an ideal hero, is faced with physical and moral challenges that no other man could face during his existence. Beowulf was not only looking to become a hero, he wanted to reveal the importance of establishing identity. However, Beowulf was not the only hero during this time period. Sir Gawain also participates in challenges that define his character. Sir Gawain was indeed a hero, but he was mostly concerned with maintaining his reputation, which sets him and Beowulf apart when it comes to being the most ideal hero. Beowulf and Sir Gawain are both models of strength and bravery as they achieve deeds in order to bring glory to their king. As both men try to establish a heroic title, Beowulf gained better recognition because he was a hero to his not only his king, but to his entire society. Although both heroes demonstrate spontaneous actions, Beowulf gained far more recognition than Sir Gawain did. Beowulf was not only recognized by his entire society, he portrayed a character to his warriors that they should endeavor. The poem Beowulf, explains two phases, youth and age, where Beowulf acted as the ideal hero. During Beowulf’s youth, he showed his courage during the swimming match with Breca. As Beowulf made a name for himself, he developed as a hero when he defeated Grendel. Answer: Introduction Depending on the presence of number of buyers and sellers in the market, different form of market exists in the economy. Other than perfectly competitive market, all other forms of market are known as imperfectly competitive market. In every form of imperfectly competitive market, sellers enjoy some market power. The extent of market power varies depending on the specific form of market. In the paper, prevalence of imperfectly competitive market in Australia is examined. Like any other nation, there is a long held monopoly structure in the telecommunication industry in Australia. Telstra is the monopolist in market. However, with increasing competition from a close rival, Singtel-Optus the structure is becoming a duopoly one. A recent article published on the possibility of having a duopoly structure in phone and internet market is reviewed. Essence of the story In Australia, there are duopoly structures in the supermarket and airline business. Woolworth and Coles are the two-duopoly players in the supermarkets. In Airline Qantas and Virgin Australia are running the duopoly business. The next segment in the Australian economy that is going to experience a duopoly structure is the telecommunication sector. The chief executive of Optus their marketing strategy and corresponding market share as published in the The Sydney Moring Herald (Ramli, 2017). The other large telecom companies include Vodafone Hutchison, TPG telecom and one or more others. They are also trying hard to increase their market share but Singtel- Optus alone left all these competitors behind. TPG telecom has overtaken iiNET increase its strength in the telecom industry but this does not make any major difference I the composition of telecom industry. Telstra has successful in retaining its market share because of providing customers a reliable network connection high quality bandwidth. Market data reveals that customers in telecom industry value network quality more than the price. Many of Vodafone subscribers has switched from Vodafone to Telstra or Optus because of poor quality interrupted services. Optus thus attempts to increase their quality of services in addition to serving their customers with cheaper service. Optus is quite success full in offering a satisfactory phone and internet service. More than 60 percent internet subscriber now opt either Telstra or Optus service. In case of mobile industry, the percentage is even higher. 80% people in Australia services of either of the two large players (Bragg Christian, 2017). Economic theories and concept Oligopoly An oligopoly market is characterized as having numerous buyers and a few sellers. Rivals follow the strategies of each other to increase their market share. Sellers in the market often face a kinked demand curve for their products (Whitehead, 2014). The kinked demand curve has two types of elasticity in its two parts. In the inelastic part a price war is observed among the sellers top undercut the market share of each other. Equilibrium point is E as obtained from the profit maximizing condition, Marginal Revenue (MR) = Marginal Cost (MC) (Fershtman de Zeeuw, 2013). Rival sellers in the market reduce their price below the equilibrium. Once one firm do that other also do the same and this triggers a price war in the market. In the telecommunication industry, few large players are Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, TPG. Each offers attractive prices to the customers to increase its own market share by undercutting others. Among them Telstra acquires the largest market share (Shahiduzzaman Alam, 2014) Duopoly The oligopoly structure in the market transforms to a duopoly structure when two large firms serve all buyers in the market. As there are only two firms in the market, market concentration is greater in duopoly as compare to oligopoly (Shepherd, 2014). The monopolist position of Telstra is likely to be threatened with the rise in share of Optus. Monopoly A Monopoly is a market structure dominated by a single seller. Among all the forms of imperfectly competitive market monopoly market is the one where seller enjoys most advantageous position. The monopolist is completely able to supply a very low quantity at a very high price grabbing the entire surplus in the market (Mahanty, 2014). Given complet5e control over price and quantity it is possible for the monopolist to enjoy an economic profit even in the long-run in contrast to a competitive market (Holian, 2014). The shaded region shows the prospective economic profit in the monopoly market. Recommendation Transport and communication are two important pillars of economic growth. Hence, development of these two sectors is important. There is no doubt that Telstra is doing best in providing its customers a steady mobile and internet service. However, the quality is often undermined by its high cost. Customers having medium to low affordability often look for a comparatively cheaper network connection. This is one factor responsible for recent undercut of Telstras market share. Thus, Telstra should consider revising its price to retain its market share. Optus on the other hand, should work on improving the quality of its services. By offering cheaper package plan Optus though successful in increasing the number of its customers there are still some question on the reliability of the network service. Once Optus overcome the barriers of quality it will come at par with Telstra. Conclusion The evaluation of the articles reaches to the conclusion that telecom industry in Australia has received another big player, Singtel-Optus. With this the monopoly structure or otherwise monopoly structure will be reduced to a duopoly one. This benefits the Australian customers by providing them another reliable yet comparatively cheaper service provider. Previously they have only one choice for having a quality choice. With efforts made by Optus in improving its services, there is high chance of breaking the monopoly of Telstra. Manager has to support the performance of individuals by giving them directions how to implement the task and achieve best results out of that. By proper communicating and coordinate the activities, manager can easily manage maintain the relation between internal and external environment (Cascio, 2018). Improving process and quality includes trained the new technologies and updating to employees on the job. Development of employees will lead to improvement in process and quality of products and proper vision by the manager should be there. Functions of Manager: Planning is nothing but a gap between where the company is standing today and where manager want that company to reach. All the decisions related to expansion, diversification and other activities are taken by the manager in planning decision. Company plans in advance what activities they have to do, how they will do it and who will going to perform that activity in the organisation. Organising refers to the arrangement of resources and assignment of duties to the employees and establishing authority relationship among them (Child, 2015). Organising includes all the allocation of work or tasks and resources to the employees for implementation of work. Staffing includes recruitment, selection, training and development of personnel and giving them adequate remuneration. This function performed by manager for the right selection of employees at right time for performing the task in the organisation. After following all these above functions, manager gives the direction to the employees how to implement the activity in real in the organisation for achievement of goals. Directing involves supervision over employees working, motivating them and communicating all the important information (Fayol, 2016). After all the resources are put in place, managers work yet not complete as he has to do the correcting work. This work includes measuring the differences in expected and actual results and if the results are not matching to the expectations then corrective measures were taken by the manager. Challenges and risks: Maintain the quality as well as quality in the time when prices are at its peak. Challenge for manager is to provide a good amount of quantity with good quality standards of product (Murray-Webster, and Hillson, 2016). Manager has to maintain the balance between the quantity and quality of the product in that particular cost only. Timely converting the goals or objectives into results is a job of manager. Manager has to complete the task with efficient utilisation of resources and within the time sanctioned. Updating the technology timely is a challenging task for a manager. Implementing new technology in a new organisation depicts employees smartness and ability to understand new changes done in the organisation. In a recent interview of Coca Cola Amantil, manager has accepted the fact that they are facing the problem in managing the risk and finding the new banks for the deposit of money. This is because of the reason that the credit rating companies has pushed the rating of company to the downside (Global Capital, 2012). The environment in which the business is operating is keeps on changing day to day. The manager has to work in that complicated environment and have to face the changes on daily basis. In the market there are always availability of new opportunities and threats the manager has to find that by scanning the business environment (Reason, 2016). Customers choices and preferences are changing very frequently. Now customer prefers to have more of health conscious drinks. Although Coca-Cola is offering a wide variety of products for diet conscious and health conscious customer but then also there is a high competition in the market as close substitutes are available like Pepsi. Impact of values, ethics and diversity on culture and role of manager: Values are just the fundamental beliefs of an individual and the principle of doing the right and justice within organisation and should have to follow the organisation prescribed values. The relationship between the employee performance and organisational values plays a significant role in the organisation for the employee satisfaction (Hannington, 2016). These values include optimum utilisation of resources, doing work with innovation and creativity, coordination with the employees, communication about information and grievances and showing integrity and loyalty towards the organisation. The value of the companies governs the policies, procedures, strategies and appraisals for the company. Values also affect the products offered by the company as it includes how the product will sale and to be offer to public. Ethics are the beliefs of an individual that governs their moral values, honesty, integrity, confidentiality and justice. Business ethics is a field in which cod of conduct of business has been followed by seeing corporate responsibility and taking social and legal factors in mind. Mostly businesses do the ethical advertisement of their product to have good brand image of product and Company in the minds of customers (Sacconi, 2012). Company tries to charge a price which is relevant as customers are price sensitive to this factor. If a company offers a product advantages and disadvantages with full transparency then this activity is considered to be an ethical. In Coca-Cola Amatil, the ethics and code of conduct of business in the organisation has been already defined that how individuals have to perform a role or activity in an ethical manner. This code of conduct includes honesty and integrity in the working of employees and these workings are transparent to the stakeholders. Coca-Cola is following the concept of providing the good quality products to the consumer. Decisions by individuals are made with justice, fairness and impartiality. Following ethics is important in every organisation as it increases the confidence in consumer that company is ethical in nature and its activities and does not provide any adulterated products (Thiel, Bagdasarov, Harkrider, Johnson and Mumford, 2012). It also increases the corporate goodwill of the company by ethical behaviour in society and can also reduce their financial liabilities. Diversity of culture is nothing but an individual values, norms and tradition which they follow and judge, interact, percept others on that basis. It is difference in the caste, sex, religion; culture and social abilities of an individual (Hofhuis, van der Zee, and Otten, 2012). Implementing diversity in the organisation is difficult as it include all individuals from different backgrounds and having different beliefs and influencing individuals to together come up with the same norms, policies and rules and beliefs cannot be done in a one stroke (Patrick and Kumar, 2012). So implementing a diversity culture adoption is a long way activity which managers have to perform. Coca-Cola also facing the diversity challenge as it has a wide geographical reach so it has to maintain the rules according to that only. The company has facing many problems because of diversification in culture like company is spending a high cost for maintaining the diversity. Company is providing training and mentoring regarding the diversity in culture throughout the branches in world (Irefin, and Mechanic, 2014). Coca-Cola is trying to maintain the work life balance possible for individuals. Some employees are also file suit on the company on the ground of discrimination on the basis of race or diversity. From the above discussion, we can conclude that the coca cola is a leading brand in the soft drink field. To manage this leading position, organisational structure is an essential component in the organisation and managing the structure is the work of manager. Manager is responsible for managing the structure effectively and efficiently while communicating and coordinating with all the related aspects affecting the organisation. Conclusion: In todays competitive environment, manager has to perform complex task and are facing many challenges in risk in operating the organisations working. Financial risk, dealing in dynamic environment, changes in consumer preferences all are working as a barrier for efficient working of a manager.
